SUPPORTING FAMILIES WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE DEATH OF A BABY THROUGH MISCARRIAGE, STILLBIRTH, NEONATAL DEATH OR TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY DUE TO FETAL ABNORMALITY
The Northumberland division usual hold a memorial service in the Autumn at St John's Church, Ashington. It lasts approximately 45 minutes and is for anyone who has experienced the death of a baby, no matter how long ago.
The Tyne and Wear division usually hold a memorial service in the Summer at St Hilda's Church, Marden, North Shields. It lasts approximately 45 minutes and is for anyone who has experienced the death of a baby, no matter how long ago.
At the beginning of the service which is usually conducted by the Hospital Chaplain, everyone is invited to light a candle which will remain lit through out the duration of the service. There are hymns and readings from the bible and the Chaplain talks about subjects which unite us in these circumstances.
We normally have a good attendance with between 60 and 80 people and when the candles are all lit and placed on the altar the sight is incredibly moving, knowing each one represents a baby lost too soon. Some people who attend have done so for many years and others travel long distances to be at the services. Over the last few years we have had mothers coming to remember their babies who would now be in their 50's!
We take along the Memories Book for everyone to view and requests for entries can be submitted at this time.
